Spending time with a dear friend
I am Catholic. I love being Catholic. Many are the graces I have received or requested for others through prayer before the presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Today my time with my friend was very powerful. Trust gained, strength given, hope renewed. I would be nothing without my friend. And I will remember my promise to share time, talent, and treasure. 45/365.

candlelight
During my trip to three Italian Cities (as part of a larger European vacation), I ducked into a Roman Catholic Church in the city of Rome. I took this photograph using my (then) new 50mm f/1.8 lens. Slight edit here for color (and the one blue candle in a sea of red illumination was as viewed in the original). You can see all the photos from the Rome and the Vatican at this set: flickr.com/photos/robertmiller/sets/72157594409749707/.
And old one from last summer that never made it up. I'm rather fond of this photo, especially because it came from my crummy old olympus yet it still doesn't suck..
My Prayers are Always Before Him
For Lent: Forty Days in the Wilderness: "Prayer is indispensible for us, for if we neglect our dealings with God, little by little our spiritual life begins to languish. "If you abandon prayer you may at first live on spiritual reserves and, after that, by cheating." (J. Escriva, Furrow). On the other hand, prayer unites us to God and He tells us: Without me you can do nothing... Moreover, during Lent, we walk with Jesus along the Way of the Cross. Without prayer, how difficult it is to accompany him. - from Francis Fernandez, In Conversation with God Highest position in Explore: 238 March 12, 2007. IMG_4572b.
Always Present
Why do you sleep? he asks them. Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation. -Luke 22:46 "If you see me asleep, if you discover that I am afraid of pain, if you notice that I stop when I see the cross more closely, Do not leave me! Tell me, as you told Peter, James and John, that you need my affection my love. Tell me that in order to follow you, in order to never abandon you again into the hands of those who plot your death, I have to overcome my drowsiness, my passions and my comfort..." -C. Votive Candles
When you enter a Catholic church, you might see a shrine, small side chapels or side altars with statues or icons and rows of votive candles. The word "votive" comes from the Latin "votum" meaning "vow," and these candles (which aren't blessed) are, when lit, used to symbolize our prayers, vows of prayer, or simply our honoring God or one of His Saints. -- www.fisheaters.com/fire.html.
