One of the many devotional altars at the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Cathedral of the Virgin of the Assumption) in Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca, Mexico. Situated at the northern end of the Zocalo, the Cathedral encompasses an entire city block. Construction of the church began in 1535. Earthquakes have severely damaged the structure over the years, which has led to major renovations and repairs. It was re-consecrated in 1733, after major repairs were made following a severe earthquake in the early 1700s.
