Ziad, on the right, has been arrested 4 times in all, each time for stone throwing offences against the israeli military, and has spent almost two years in jail. his first arrest was at the age of 14. Palestinians are never tried under civil court hearings. a system of 1500 military orders controls every aspect of palestinian life. Court hearings are always at a military court. Young prisoners can be detained without reason under the auspices of israeli security. stone throwing amongst disenfranchised palestinian youths is perhaps the equivalent of youths in the uk sitting at bus stops with nothing to do. here they face a brutal military occupation and so throw stones at their oppresors. there are more than 400 palestinians below the age of 16 spending between 6 months and life in israeli military jails..
