the route of the separation wall in the salfit district of the west bank, palstine is one of the most convoluted, damaging in terms of land and well confiscation, and is beyond inhumane. in the picture - the building at the rear is an israeli settler house. mohammed, in the foreground is a palestinian forced to live in a cage between the separation wall and the israeli settlement. he refused to stand by helpless and let his home be demolished for the separation wall, and so took the case to the israeli high court. the court ruled in his favour, hence the wall (an electrified fence) was built around his house, not over it. his family now have to pass through a gate to get to "palestine". this gate was at first controlled by the israeli military, who for the first two weeks following the walls construction did not even appear to unlock it. family and friends had to throw water and fo.

ziad - jailed at 15 for throwing stones
Daily Life in Bethlehem. Two young palestinians, both former prisoners. Ziad, on the right, has been arrested 4 times in all, each time for stone throwing offences against the israeli military, and has spent almost two years in jail. his first arrest was at the age of 14. Palestinians are never tried under civil court hearings. a system of 1500 military orders controls every aspect of palestinian life. Court hearings are always at a military court. Young prisoners can be detained without reason under the auspices of israeli security. stone throwing amongst disenfranchised palestinian youths is perhaps the equivalent of youths in the uk sitting at bus stops with nothing to do. here they face a brutal military occupation and so throw stones at their oppresors. there are more than 400 palestinians below the age of 16 spending between 6 months and life in israeli military jails..
