Quill and Ink
This is from when writing was an art. I type so much on my laptop that I hardly remember how to write with a pen! I used to do calligraphy and I suppose that is what this was like. It took a lot more time. And they didn't hear the constant hum of the computer fan. Awwww, peace. Taken at Valley Forge, PA in a local home that had once been occupied by General Varnum and his men. The family that lived in the home stayed there at the same time. It must have been horribly crowded. Copyright by Janine Broscious 2009.
George Washington Sat Here
Constructed between 1732 and 1756 as the State House of the Province of Pennsylvania, it is considered a fine example of Georgian architecture. From 1775 to 1783 (except for the winter of 1777 - 1778 when Philadelphia was occupied by the British Army) this was the meeting place for the Second Continental Congress. It was in the Assembly Room of this building that George Washington was appointed commander in chief of the Continental Army in 1775 and the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. In the same room the design of the American flag was agreed upon in 1777, the Articles of Confederation were adopted in 1781, and the U. S. Constitution was drafted in 1787. The building, inside and out, has been restored whenever possible to its original late-18th century appearance. Most of the furnishing are period pieces. The "rising sun" chair used by George Washington as he presided over the Constitutional Convention is original. <a href="http://www.nps.

The Widower's Table
A photograph taken inside Deans Cottage. The colonial cottage was built by the Scottish brothers, William and John Deans, in 1843. It is the oldest building on the Canterbury Plains, but sadly the chimney has suffered some earthquake damage. The photograph was made into a digital painting, combined with the original picture and finally turned into the black and white image above. It was a lot of work and I am very pleased with the final look..
