Sailors offer mock-ups of their ships so they will be protected when sailing. There is an old Galician saying: "A San Andrés de Teixido, quen non vai de morto vai de vivo" (which more or less means 'If you don't go to San Andrés de Teixido when you are alive, your dead soul will go on pilgrimage there').
