Candles in the Dark
A trio of candles cutting through the darkness.

I really like the blue of the flame here..
Day 3/366.....Fire, Wood & Stone
Jan 3 003/366 Oh my goodness this shot gave me fits! The goal was to catch the texture of the wood, the hardness of the stone, the smoothness of the candle AND the flame, all with available light and NOT overexposing the top of the candle. I really learned something about the relationship between the ISO, aperture and shutter speed tonight! This shot is SOOC, with only a crop. Also, view on black: View On Black Buy my art at Imagekind!.

Candle Row in Glass
This is a glass candle holder I got super cheap over the holidays at Crate & Barrel. I thought it might be cool to photograph! I used my 50mm lens at f/1.8 for this..
smoke #1
Candle just blown out. Flash set to 6 pops/second at 1/128 power, handheld just below and behind, aimed towards the top of the candle. Triggered by hand when the shutter went off..
smoke #2
Similar setup as this shot ..
smoke #3
A variant of this ..
smoke #4
The fourth and, for now at least, last candle smoke photo. The others: 1 , 2 , 3 . For this I manually fired the flash (at 1/64 power I think) a couple of times during the exposure. Flash behind, below, and slightly to the left, aimed towards the top of the candle. For all these shots I used a 100-300 lens and some extension tubes..
Tarts
Wax tarts I made for a swap.
