candle jars Calvin straining out Candle making with my boys
Calvin straining out the old wicks. Calvin is 12 years old by the way & knows how to safely use the stove. HOW TO: Also blogged on www.midnightcrafter.com We melted down the old candles in the CRAFT POT. Strained out the old wicks. Prepped old jars with new wicks purchased at my local craft store (where I work). I bought both wicks with metal bases & ones with out. I used clothespins & bamboo skewers to hold the wicks in place. Carefully poured in the melted wax. Allowed to set up. That's it :).

candle jars Please view here 14.1/365

candle jars Pleeaasseee view it
Pleeaasseee view it bigger! Okay, so i had said I wasn't going to put up stuff from the show until after, but I'm breaking my own rules. Well, technically I'm not because this one isn't actually going into the show, sooo, yeah. I'm having a hard time going through all my shoots for the gallery and picking out the best ones/ narrowing it down to just a few to actually put in it. Stressed much? Yes, yes I am. Our show is May 15th, I still have to print, matt, frame, etc. all the photos. I like the photos, but the more I keep staring at them, the more I'm like, oh, I wish I had done this and that, etc. It's just getting oober frustrating. Doesn't have anything to do with my fabulous models, it's all about what I could have done and time of day I was able to shoot in. Ah well, I'm sure I'm just being over picky with myself... breathe kate, breathe.

candle jars What could be an American house party
What could be more American than a canning party? I know that people in other countries can things and make jam and stuff like that, but it just always strikes me as an American tradition. Here are some of my faves from the canning/jam party last Friday night with my girlfriends. It was a great opportunity to shoot and just have fun with my camera (no interuptions from the little ones). This is also my entry for the I Heart Faces Week 28 Challenge: I Heart My Country. Visit the I Heart Faces website to enter your own story or to read others..

candle jars I shot this Red Christmas Cheer
I shot this last January after I found the beautiful poinsettia on sale, and I brought it home and set my props up around it on the kitchen table. This was photographed using nothing but my flash and ambient light, which is all I ever have available. Sometimes it's a bit of a challenge to get decent photographs under these conditions. Thank goodness for Photoshop! I know this is a bit early in the holiday season, but I'm planning on doing a series of color-themed Christmas still lifes before December 25th. I'm in the process of getting the props for the photos together now. Most of the objects in these shots have been procured from local junk stores or given to me over the years. I have lots of things to photograph--and lots of things to collect dust! Anyway, I wish all my friends an enjoyable holiday season.
